Neck Pain

Neck Pain

Your Trusted Chiropractor, Serving Elgin Since 2001.

Treating neck pain is a delicate job because your neck is almost always working and aiding your movement.  When you feel neck pain, it can be more than just painful, but it can also be quite scary.

Your neck houses seven vertebra that are surrounded by supporting muscles and ligaments.  When the joints, muscles, and ligaments get irritated or inflamed your neck will pay the price.  The price can come in a myriad of forms ranging from subtle throbbing to debilitating.

Our office in Elgin, Illinois offers a qualified, supportive, and expert team that will minimize neck pain through superior chiropractic care and therapeutic treatments while giving our patients guidance on at-home remedies and preventive measures.

Why you get neck pain

There are numerous types of neck pain with just as many ways to achieve it.  The one we see most frequently is whiplash, usually due to a car accident.  However, don’t think that neck pain can only be brought on by a traumatic event.

We see many patients experiencing neck pain for differing reasons, including:

  • Herniated disc
  • Neck fracture
  • Pinched nerve
  • Dislocation
  • Certain kinds of arthritis
  • Disc degeneration
  • Infection
  • And, much more

Sometimes the reasons we experience neck pain is very innocent and can be relieved with relative quickness, but that is not always the case.  That’s why we at Sikorsky Chiropractic suggest seeing a chiropractor right away to find out how serious your neck pain is.

Even if your pain is at a minimum, the goal is to get to the root of the problem fast and find out what is making it happen so the proper plan can be put in place as soon as possible.  You do not want the pain to worsen or a serious issue to become more serious as time goes on.

Why do patients come in for neck pain

We see patients with many different symptoms of neck pain, so we know how to treat many different symptoms of neck pain- effectively and responsibly.

Some of the most prominent symptoms of neck pain are:

  • Stiff neck
  • Soreness and tenderness
  • Loss of range of motion
  • Stabbing pain
  • Radiating (or traveling) pain
  • Throbbing pain

Because human beings are using our necks constantly, we put a lot of pressure on them in ways we never thought possible.  With new technology that we use daily, our necks are challenged in ways now that they never were before.

Some of the most prominent reasons neck pain occurs are:

  • Text neck
  • Sitting all day at a desk
  • Working on a computer all day
  • Poor posture
  • Long-distance driving jobs
  • Accidents
  • Whiplash
  • Sports injury

While we don’t expect people to quit their jobs, stop using devices, or stop playing sports, we will advise our patients on how to be proactive in keeping their neck healthy and comfortable.

How we treat our patients with neck pain

We know all about the differing types of neck pain and the differing types of injuries that can cause that neck pain.

After a thorough examination based on the specific patient’s discomfort and condition, a personalized plan will be put in place.  X-rays and MRIs may be necessary for a confident analysis.

Depending on the severity of the issue, there are several ways we will go about an effective and efficient treatment.

If the injury suffered is whiplash or a herniated disc, or any injury that is not chronic, rehabilitation may take a while, but your range of motion will return and your body will start to work as it should.  This may be achieved through chiropractic adjustments, physical therapy, and massage therapy combined.

If the neck injury is chronic, visiting a chiropractor regularly for adjustments may be necessary.  When you visit Sikorsky Chiropractic you will get all the benefits of a complete chiropractic plan that co-works with lifestyle adjustments so that you’re sure to feel the positive effects our office will provide.

Our expert team will determine the best plan for your neck injury that will lead down the quickest and most reliable road to recovery.

If neck pain goes untreated

When our bodies are in pain, they’re telling us something and because we only have one, we should listen.

If your pain isn’t too severe or if it isn’t constant, we still recommend visiting a chiropractor.  On the other side of that, if you experience a trauma, such as a car accident, and you are not experiencing much, if any, pain, we still recommend visiting a chiropractor.

When neck pain goes untreated, new more harmful and more painful symptoms may generate.  Sometimes that looks like loss of sleep, worsening posture, or headaches.  However, those are less serious in nature.

Untreated neck pain can get much more severe and long-lasting, such as:

  • Chronic neck pain, soreness, and stiffness
  • Long-term mobility problems
  • Vertigo
  • Chronic headaches that lead to migraine issues
  • Vertebrae misalignment
  • Degenerative Disc disease

Solutions for neck pain

Our office offers a wide range of solutions to help in your neck pain treatment, usually with a hands-on approach.  Dr. Sikorsky provides a gentle, yet effective adjustment for his patients, using his hands to treat the damaged muscle, joint, and/or nerve pain.

Adjustments are applied with a very controlled force to the joint in order to loosen it and allow for the pain to lessen and for the poorly functioning joint to start the healing process.

When dealing specifically with neck injuries, we offer cervical manipulation, also called a neck adjustment.  This adjustment will loosen the joints of the cervical vertebrae (the neck joints) and will diminish the irritation and discomfort in the neck.

If necessary, our experienced team will work hand-in-hand combing all efforts of massage, physical therapy, and cervical manipulation to get you back in business as soon as possible.
