Underlying Medical Conditions and Severe Illness Among 540,667 Adults Hospitalized With COVID-19, March 2020–March 2021

Among 540,667 patients with COVID-19 who hospitalized with COVID-19, 94.9% had at least 1 underlying medical condition. The top three are: 1)Essential hypertension (50.4%), 2)Disorders of lipid metabolism (49.4%) 3)Obesity (33.0%)

The strongest risk factors for death were obesity, followed up by anxiety and fear-related disorders. Diabetes with complication also associated with increase death.

The Strongest risk factor for death was obesity. The obesity prevalence is 40.0% among adults aged 20 to 39 years, 44.8% among adults aged 40 to 59 years, and 42.8% among adults aged 60 and older.

Everyone can impact their health by exercising and eating better. In turn improving their weight. Just think if everyone worked on their health during the pandemic, maybe we would have less death from COVID-19.
